2013 AAU 7th Grade National Championship Winner
Rodney Lewis is a former high school baseball and football star who played wide receiver for Benedictine Ravens in Detroit Michigan. He led his team to an 8-2 record his senior year and received 1st Team All-League in a very competitive conference. He later attended Saint Joseph’s College on scholarship in Indiana where he was a four-time starter at wide receiver, two-time offensive team MVP and two-time All-Conference player.
Moving to Georgia in 1996, he began his involvement with youth sports at the Smyrna Recreational Center. He further supported and offered assistance to other recreational centers, such as: Marietta, Fair Oaks, South Cobb and College Park. He began his AAU involvement by forming the Georgia Blue Devils youth organization in 2002. His concept and teams were very successful. He made sure each player in the organization displayed good sportsmanship and received valued experience by traveling to out-of-state tournaments.
During 2005, Mr. Lewis formed another youth organization called “Southern Xposure”. The theme of the organization offered more out-of-state tournaments and exposure for the more serious youth athlete. Needless to say, the teams were very successful and the surrounding talent in Georgia began to increase because of his teams. While effectively managing his own youth organization, Mr. Lewis began supporting other teams and players by acting as a Player Development Instructor.
His passion for helping youth athletes has had a positive effect on many young men in the metro Atlanta area. In 2007, Mr. Lewis partnered with North Cobb Christian HS and became the boys head JV coach and boy’s assistant Varsity coach. Duties included scouting, game preparation and individual player development. The Varsity staff included Walter Jordan
(played in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavs) and Greg Matta (successful collegiate player at the University of Alabama-Birmingham).
While on the coaching staff at North Cobb Christian, the team achieved back-to-back AAA State Championships in 2007-08 and 2009. Moreover, in 2008-09 the varsity squad finished with a perfect 35-0 record. After a successful three-year stint on the coaching staff at North Cobb Christian, Mr. Lewis made a calculated decision to return to the recreational and AAU circuit to focus on youth development in the game of basketball.
